Welcome to the Dahlonega Literary Festival 2009 Literary IQ Quiz & Scavenger Hunt! We are very excited to present to you a fun-filled literature-inspired hunt.  You will be using your knowledge of literature to fill in 12 crossword puzzle-like Grids that read across.  However, each Grid will have one vertical column highlighted by an asterisk [*]; the letters of this special column when read down will contain that Grid’s Puzzle Answer and a crucial clue to help you solve a follow-up question (usually related to Dahlonega) following each Puzzle Grid. There is a Word List which contains EVERY answer except one.  Once a word from the Word List is used, it will not be used again. 

This Quiz is challenging and focuses particularly on the first names of authors and fictional characters. You may use any resource you wish.  You can ask local residents questions about the city or its landmarks, and you can use a computer or library for research.  The Visitor’s Center has many brochures and handouts which also could be helpful.  However, most helpful are the local merchants (listed on the reverse) who have helpful hints for you. Each can supply you with a different set of words that can be eliminated from the Word List to narrow down the choices.

Each question has a one point value and each correct completion of an asterisked column gives you an additional point –
There are 100 points in all. The person with the highest score will be the winner.  In case of a tie, the Tiebreaker questions will be used. In case there is still a tie, the Literary Festival Committee will determine the method for breaking that tie.

You can use most of Saturday for the Hunt; pick up your Quiz starting at 9 am and return it by 4 pm. 
Quizes can be picked up at two locations -- The Community House and The Dahlonega Welcome Center (Chamber of Commerce).

Rembember to enter your name, address and cell or telephone number on the front page of each page of the Quiz.

First Prize: $100

Second Prize: A first edition book

Do not be intimidated by your first look at the questions. 
Once you understand the format, it is not too hard to complete. 
However, the follow-up questions can be very tricky, so read them carefully.
